Well we finally know the outcome of Don's foot.
Yesterday afternoon 3 of his drs and another one, not sure who he was came in and told him he will never be able to walk on his foot again. If he does it will break down and he will lose it. A lot of things will be changing but at least he will be OK . They are putting a pic line in today...going to take him down for wound care so they can clean it again with that machine and then transport him to rowan regional to have the pic line put in.
They say its better for him since he will be on antibiotics for at least 6 weeks..and they can also draw blood from it.He has a staph and strep infection. We finally found that out...was not sure what kind of infection it was till yesterday.
they are ordering all the things like a hospital bed, wheelchair, ramps, etc for use at home and for his nursing care during the day.
They are also going to get him a motorized scooter when he is able to be up again , and they said something about leg braces, not sure what thats about except they said when he does stand up to go to bathroom and things like that it will help support him.he is in pretty good spirits...I was going back up today for several days but don't have a way up as christi has to got back to work.she has missed 4 days.
so she will take me back fri or sat and leave me for few days...he is scared today about having that line put in and of course the cleaning part that really scares him...it does not hurt that much, only in areas he has feeling its just the idea of the inside his foot...here is a pic of him I took the other day...he was sleeping..continue to pray...and i thank the Lord for the Veterans administration they have been so good to him and the drs are the best in my book...prayers please...also that my back holds up to this till i can have my surgery and that we can get a car he is going to have a lot of dr appts the next several months and I hate using my daughters truck all the time..she never complains but its putting a lot of miles on it as it is 65 miles each way to dr and hosp...and her work schedule does not always work out with his appts. But god is faithful and takes care of us and will continue to do so...
hugs

{{{Hugs for you and Don}}} You have been through so much. I am thankful that you are getting some answers and the doctors have been able to help. Praying that God will give you both the courage and strength you need to get through what ever comes your way.

My prayers are with you, Vickie, and your husband! My husband is a diabetic too and had a foot infection and had a pic line put in for a month to rid of the infection. My husband's situation called for part of his foot to be removed but he may have lost his foot as well....but with God's grace didn't! I can understand the upset and frustration you both must feel! We had to keep his wounds cleaned and wrapped at all times so I can feel for you with the uncertainty of that!
Don is in good hands and the staff will teach you anything you need to know for his care when he returns home so don't worry! Scott got his help through a home health system. Things will be ok and on the right track real soon! Keep your chin up and a smile on your faces for you are cared about and and prayers are being sent your way by many! (Including myself and my family!) May God keep you in his care!
Viki,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your husband at this most difficult time. Hugs being sent your way.
Lynn
